What happens
More refrigerant than the approved system charge changes the circuit's operating balance.
Typical symptoms
Performance deteriorates after charging; abnormal operating readings may appear despite adequate airflow.
Checks that distinguish this cause
Use the model procedure with the correct stage, line length and stable conditions. Rule out condenser airflow faults before concluding that high pressure means overcharge.
What can look similar
Noncondensables, heat recirculation and a failed fan can create overlapping symptoms.
Repair direction
Recover and establish the approved charge using the required method; do not vent refrigerant.
Verify the repair
Record stabilized temperature/pressure measurements and capacity after correction.
Equipment-specific limits
Qualified personnel must use the identified refrigerant, approved tools and OEM charging procedure. For blends, use the correct dew/bubble convention for the calculation. A pressure reading alone does not establish charge.
Practice this diagnosis
These simulated calls exercise this component or repair family. The article describes a broader diagnostic process; a call may represent a different cause within that family.
