Before choosing a part

Is this a PSC, ECM or inverter-driven fan? A capacitor diagnosis only applies where that motor actually uses one.

Separate the lookalikes

Separate supply / control loss, capacitor failure, motor winding failure and mechanical obstruction using the matching motor procedure. Humming or an assisted start alone does not identify the failed part.

Pause if the situation is unsafe. Stop on smoke, damaged terminals, suspected refrigerant leakage or unsafe access. Preserve all protections. Power isolation, proof of absent voltage and the approved capacitor / inverter discharge procedure come before resistance tests or repairs.

Match the document to the equipment

  1. Record full indoor, outdoor and controller models, region, serial generation and refrigerant.
  2. Match the manual revision, wiring label and approved equipment combination.
  3. Use that model’s test procedure, operating conditions and limits. No universal charge target or interchangeable fault-code table.
  4. Confirm the repair under automatic operation and record the evidence.
