Walk up. Look closer. Test your theory.
Explore a condenser, select a component and use observations to decide what to test. A humming unit with a stopped fan can have more than one cause.
1. Explore the unit
Outdoor power ONDrag to rotate · pinch or scroll to zoom · tap a part to select it. Sound is an optional approximation, not a diagnostic recording. The buttons below also work with a keyboard or when 3D is unavailable.
2. Observe & test
Fan & motor
PSC motor · check rotation and isolated windings
Read troubleshooting causes →Virtual observation only. Never insert a hand or object into an energized fan. This animation explores a symptom; it does not teach a physical hand-start procedure.
What you found
Arrive at the unit: the compressor is operating, but the outdoor fan is not turning.
Prepare for hands-on tests
- Isolate and lock out outdoor power
- Prove absence of voltage with a proved meter
- Discharge capacitor and verify residual voltage
A fan that starts by itself is the goal.
Restore labeled connections and guards, clear the area, then check automatic start and stop. An assisted spin is an observation, not a repair.
